SEO Checklist for New Business Websites

A new website ships with the cleanest SEO slate it will ever have. Get these fundamentals right on launch day and you will rank faster, for years.

Technical SEO

  • Page loads under 2 seconds on mobile
  • Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP) in the green
  • HTTPS + valid SSL certificate
  • sitemap.xml auto-generated and submitted to Google Search Console
  • robots.txt allows crawl of public pages and blocks /admin
  • Clean URLs with keywords, no ?id= parameters
  • 301 redirects for any old or moved URLs
  • Mobile-first responsive layout

On-page SEO

  • Exactly one h1 per page, unique and descriptive
  • Logical h2 / h3 structure (this article is a template)
  • Unique title and meta description per page
  • Canonical URL on every page
  • Internal links between related pages and products
  • Descriptive alt text on every image
  • Lazy-loaded, WebP-optimized images

Schema (JSON-LD)

At minimum include Organization, Website, BreadcrumbList, and (where relevant) Product, Service, BlogPosting, FAQ, and LocalBusiness schema.
